SPRINGFIELD — State Senator Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) issued the following statement after listening to the governor's State of the State address:
Though I am glad the governor is focusing on reforming our tax and criminal justice systems and attempting to bring more employment opportunities to Illinois, I don’t believe, as he seems to, that the path to prosperity runs through cutting wages and eroding the middle class. This approach to governing will only serve to reverse any progress we’ve made, and sentence us to long-term economic stagnation that will harm all Illinois families.
I very much hope to find common ground with this administration. But we must start by respecting Illinois workers and their families, and then finding sound, compassionate solutions to our most pressing problems.
