Earlier this month, State Senator Daniel Biss (D-Evanston) — along with State Representative Robyn Gabel (D-Evanston) — held a town hall meeting in the 9th Senate District to provide a legislative update to constituents and hear residents' thoughts and concerns. More than 100 people packed a conference room in the Morton Civic Center in Evanston to first listen to their legislators and then voice their own opinions and ask questions.
Biss began by explaining the extraordinarily difficult fiscal situation we face in Illinois. Then, before turning over the floor to his constituents, he laid out some steps the General Assembly has taken to address these challenges and explained other pending policy changes that he supports.
The highlights of the question-and-answer session included the following topics:
On the demonization of public employees by certain groups:
On pending legislation regulating law-enforcement groups' use of drones:
On the status of legislation regarding the regulation of hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking":
After the governor's budget address, Senator Biss talks about the stark financial problems the state faces and that a broad focus is needed to solve them.
